Kyle Woods State Nature Preserve
Mahoning County, Ohio · .75 trail miles in ODNR's guide
Our take written by Nature Awed
Kyle Woods is an 82-acre beech-sugar maple forest in Mahoning County given to the Division in memory of Judge Arthur Kyle.
ODNR names cucumber magnolia, black cherry and black gum among its trees and several white oaks over 300 years old. The gate is locked in winter, so visitors park at the base of the drive and walk up to the 0.75 miles of trail.

What ODNR says about it
Essentially undisturbed by humans since 1903, Kyle Woods is a significant remnant of the original forests of Mahoning County. The 82-acre preserve was a gift to the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves in 1977 from Josephine Kyle in memory of her father, Judge Arthur Kyle.
Although primarily a beech-sugar maple community, Kyle Woods has a striking diversity of woody species and is more complex than most similar woodlots in northeastern Ohio. Tree species include cucumber magnolia, wild black cherry, black gum and several species of oaks and ashes. The preserve also features several white oaks more than 300 years old.
